i have been over exerting on little weights until i get really tired and exhausted, the soreness goes on for a a week, is it bad.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes and No. Here's what I mean. The purpose of weight lifting is to build or maintain muscle mass. You do this by breaking down muscle. The second part of the equation is muscle needs time in between lifting to rebuild itself. So if you aren't exerting yourself enough to feel something, than you probably aren't lifting with enough intensity to build more muscle. Over doing it can be just as bad. It's not good to keep your muscles in a constant state of "breakdown" without giving them sufficient time to "build up". Soreness and exhaustion for a week or longer would seen excessive though. The usual recommendation is 3 weight training workouts a week, but you can vary this if you work out different muscle groups or use different activities that target different muscles. I would be concerned if you have routine significant soreness that persist longer than 72hours. Mix it up - lift weights on one day that target chest/tricep/gluts - play basketball the next - lift to target lats/back/guads the next. And so on... Balance comes through utilizing different intensity workouts and different activities. Incorporate good diet and fliud hydration. If the week long exhaustion/soreness persist, than see your family doctor. Some medical conditions can make you more prone to soreness and fatigue. Health Question & Answer
