Is my workout routine ok?!

Question: Is my workout routine ok.?
I workout my upper body (chest, arms) every other day. Like Monday, Wednsday, Friday, Sunday. And, in the days in between I run. Sunday, Tuesday, Thrusday, and Saturday. I do this every week without stopping. I have been told to workout until I am sore the next day. Soreness is supposed to mean that you did enough, and soreness is a signal of building muscle. That is the main reason I am told. Is this a correct workout.? No, I do not have doctor's "permission". I only taking advice from friends who have done this longer than I have so I trust them. And, no I am not currently on any protein shakes of any kind. My goal is to have lean muscle for the spring workouts for football.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Try this: body parts need 4-7 days of rest before you work them again.( except calves and abs)

Monday: legs and calves
Tuesday: chest, abs
wendsday: OFF
thursday: back and calves
friday: shoulders traps and abs
saturday: biceps, triceps, forearms
sunday: OFF

You NEED to workout all body parts, and weight lifting to your legsHealth Question & Answer

It's not about soreness. If you're sore, then you've damaged the muscle and you shouldn't work out a muscle that is still sore. For muscle growth you need to focus on overload (working the muscle to failure) and progression (doing more than you did the previous time). If you do these two things the muscle will get stronger. But you won't get any size if your nutrition is not right. You need to take in enough calories to grow, and enough protein to build new muscle. Those guys that just work out constantly until they're sore don't know what they're doing and probably don't make much progress at all in the gym.Health Question & Answer

No, after awhile, soreness wont come anymore, and you'll just start to hurt yourself. Take a day off during the week because if you dont ever rest, your muscles dont have time to heal and grow, your just pushing them day after day. Thats a good schedule, but take a day of once or twice a week just to relax, and you'll be fine by spring. Make sure your eating right to, that can really help you along. Health Question & Answer

Don't forget your legs!!! Running will not build all the strength needed for football. Consider squats, hamstring curls and calf raises.Health Question & Answer
