55 year old man with stomach pain?!

Question: 55 year old man with stomach pain.?
My father who is 55 years old has had stomach pain for 2 days straight now. First he thought it was heartburn, it was under his boobs above his belly button, but now his stomach (where his belly button is) hurts. Is this gas.? I am freaking out. Please give me your advice. I realize he should probably go to the Dr, but just tell me what you think. Thank you kindly.Health Question & Answer

You didn't say if it gets worse after he eats or if he's gone off eating much at all.
In a male that age, given the little info you have, it's possible he has developed a small, partial bowel obstruction and is slowly clearing it. This is evidenced by the pain moving to another part of the stomach as the obstuction progresses along the intestines. These can occur for no real reason other than a section of intestine just stops working for a while and food banks up but the section starts again and things get moved on.
He could have swallowed a small piece of bone or some other object when eating and it's scraping the intestines as it gets pushed along.
Some ulcers can give this generalized sort of symptom as well.
I must admit 2 days seems a bit long for any other problems but as long as his bowel movements look okay and don't change color or stop then he may be okay and its just a one-off thing.
Sometimes the appendicitis starts out this way and the pain gradually moves to settle in the lower right abdo and, in males, is often associated with testicle discomfort.
Of course if it lasts for more than a few days or gets worse then he is really advised to go get some abdo X-rays and perhaps a barium swallow to check what's happening in there.
