Question: Hey anyone who has given blood to the Red Cross..Can you tell me what they will need to know.?
What questions do they ask about.? I went to the website but it's kind of vague. If you've been there, can you tell me what all they ask.? Are they such personal questions that they cannot post them on the website.? Health Question & Answer

Answers:
They follow the same routine every time you donate blood, which has to do with non-contamination and safety for obvious reasons.

And you sign a form stating health, changes in well-being and sexual contact in the previous three months (from the last donation), etc.

They then test your iron levels so if you are below the acceptable count (I think 170), you will be declined.

When you donate, they will take a small sample which is tested by the blood service labs, then your donation is either allowed or rejected as fits their criteria.Health Question & Answer

Well, yeah, they are personal questions. They're about your medical history, and whether you are currently taking medications that might show up in your blood.

They used to do a little test in advance to determinie if your blood is acceptable. A friend and I went one time, several years ago, and after his pre-test, not only did they not want him as a donor, they advised him to see his personal doctor as soon as he could. It was the onset of a serious, but curable, disease. If he had waited until serious symptoms developed, it might have been too late for treatment.

I hope your blood is acceptable, because there is a constant need.Health Question & Answer

you get a survey...sometimes paper sometimes on the computer just depends...and there's around 50 q's.... just general stuff that will determine your eligibility to give blood. Such as:
In the last 12months have you had a piercing, had a tattoo
have you ever had sex with a man that's had sex with another man,
have you ever had sex for money
during the years (and don't recall the specifics) have you lived in Europe...
the list goes on....

but it's totally worth it, i'm one pint away from donating a gallon. It's a great cause! Health Question & Answer

they are going to ask you personal questions about your sexual activity, drug use, eating and drinking habits... they don't want you coming to give blood to have a screening analysis done.Health Question & Answer

also your medical history, if you are taking any medications..then they ask a BUNCH of questions and do some tests once you get done filling out the paperwork. Health Question & Answer

Nothing too bad. They will ask you your basic health stuff. They will ask if you have had unprotected sex recently and if you have used drugs or have ever had or been exposed to hepatitisHealth Question & Answer
