My Dad Is Really Struggling. I Need Some Help? ?!

Question: My Dad Is Really Struggling. I Need Some Help.? .?
My dad was diagnosed with colon cancer about a month ago. The doctors performed surgery on him 4 days later. He was doing just fine.
But then his doctor said he had a bacteria in his stomach and prescribed him pills to combat it. He was taking the pills but the pain was killing him, so he stopped taking them. When it was time for him to take his chemo therapy, they did some exams and it turned out that he did not have a bacteria. If my dad hadn't decided to stop taking the pills, he would have been dead by now. Suddenly, the cancer spread to his liver, and the doctors don't give us a lot of hope for him. But before they performed surgery on him, they only said that the liver had small splatters of cancer, but now they say it's really growing fast. Is it possible for cancer to grow a lot in a month.? Or do you think those pills made it worse.?
This is kind of confusing for me.
My dad's legs and feet extremely swollen because of all the IV's they've put on him. They look like blown up ballons. :((( && Water is coming out of his legs.
His stomach is also growing. He doesn't want to eat, and he's talking alot of non-sence in his sleep. He's also very skinny.

Do you think my dad is going to get better.?
Do you know anyone who's been through this and actually survived without worries.?

Another thing is that cancer really runs in my family.
4 people from my dad's side of the family have had it [[including my dad]]. I have my dad's blood 100%. Is there a possibility that I will get cancer in the future.? && What can I do to not get it.?Health Question & Answer

I am sorry to hear your anguish young gal. I have had members of my family with cancer. I do not know what the chances of your dad recovering from this are, but I would just be there to let him know he is loved. I would also if I were you, make it a point to get to my yearly doctors physicals. they do have a full body scan and can tell you alot more about this. I think the gene has been isolated for cancer(don't know if it is a specific type or not). I would just wish you and your family much peace love and hugs.Health Question & Answer

Sorry to hear this.
and i have a tiny amount of medical background, but the bacteria pills would of just been some antibiotics, wont cause cancer...

it sounds like his cancer has metastasized, which is far from good. :-(

*fingers cross* and will be sending "get well" thoughts towards your dad!

I am very sorry for you and your dad, what a dreadful situation to be in. I can't answer your question as to whether your dad will get better as i don't know what sort of cancer it is (some types are more agressive than others)
As to whether you will get it or not is hard to say but what I would do is have regular check ups and scans. Good luck to both of you.Health Question & Answer

I do not know what to tell you for your father, but you need to have a serious discussion with your doctor. Make sure he understands your family history and your concerns. While individual doctors for each family member has its merits, there is a lot to be said for a doctor who treats an entire family so that when a possibly genetic related condition shows up in one family member, he realizes the need to check the other family members.Health Question & Answer

It looks like the doctors may have made a crucial mistake, which might result in a law suit in the coming months. First off, I am sorry about the entire situation, especially being his daughter this must be extremely difficult.
A friend of mine had colon cancer about two years ago and she made a full recovery. It might seem hard, but miracles happen, and people overcome this.
And as far as you getting it, there is no proof that it is hereditary or in your genes at all.Health Question & Answer
