Bowflex... how good is it?!

Question: Bowflex... how good is it.?
I love to work out, mostly free weights, but hit the machines for a few things. The gym i go to is good, however its the only gym in town and is packed all the time. I was thinking about buying a bow flex Ultimate 2 (2,250USD), cutting out the middle man and working out at home. Im already tone from my cardio and work out now. The question is can bowflex add muscle mass or is it just for a more toning work out.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Short answer: resistance is resistance. The caveat is that some machines operate on a single plane of resistance leaving stabilizing muscles out of the equation but the Bowflex is an exception. If you're going for aesthetics it doesn't matter but for athletes it's paramount and the recruitment of accessory muscles tends to prevent injuries. If you're already pretty burly, consider the upcharge of $100 for the stiffer rods. (310 to 410, so a buck a pound in the States) I could see legwork being shortchanged at a 410 lb limit but only you know your limits. It is obviously safer to use solo but a drawback could turn out to be motivation. That's a lot of $ to hang clothing from when the new wears off. I'd try one if you never have. If you like it, add some dumbbells and you'll have muscle mass/hypertrophy covered. Health Question & Answer
