My husband having problem with orgasms? Help!?!?!

Question: My husband having problem with orgasms.? Help!.?!.?
My husband is on anti-depressent.I know that there will always be side affects with anti-depressents but here is the problem my husbad is having.

Paxil- Wonderful for emotions, but he could NOT orgasm even though he would be in the mood.

Celexa- Not as great for the emotions part, but he could oragsm, however he was NEVER in the mood.

We are trying to find a common ground and his doctor isnt being very helpful. he doesnt want to go see another doctor either. Ive talked to my doctor and he said just take viagra with the anti-depressent and he should be fine. I just dont know how to help him!! He is not ready to get off anti-depressents yet. Maybe in the future, but not yet. Any advice.?.?.?Health Question & Answer

I also had problems with Paxil and Effexor.

Now I take Wellbutrin, and it doesn't have the sexual side-effects that the others do.

But it's necessary to work with the doctor. I don't let the doctors dictate to me; I ask questions, and ask them to help me try other things when I feel that it's appropriate.

also, some medications work for some, and not for others, which is why we have to have doctors to prescribe for us and to monitor our response to the medications.

Taking Viagra with the medication isn't necessarily the best course--I would question the doctor's reason for not trying Wellbutrin, which is known not to have the sexual side effects generally.

Don't be afraid to question the doctor's judgement; they're not perfect, and you have a right to ask his reasons for not trying other medications.

Good luck to you both.Health Question & Answer

I was on some anti-depressants for a while but none of them had that kind of effect on me. Maybe try Lexapro. It may help. I took five different ones and none of them had that effect on me although I have heard many people having that problem. Unfortatnly they did nothing for my depression either and I still have major problems with that nor can I even find someone to have sex with so in the end it all just sucks.Health Question & Answer

Although I'm not a physician or sex therapist it appears that your husband has gotten used to a particular pattern of stimulation and set of stimuli or circumstances through his rather long history of bringing himself to orgasm. If he is still masturbating with any regularity he may want to stop totally. Then the two of you may want to engage in daily foreplay and arousing contact without intercourse until his simply can't refrain any longer. This may help with assuring that he reaches orgasm.Health Question & Answer

How long was he on the Paxil.? I had the same experience once I started Paxil, but it went away after 3 or 4 months. It's not a problem for me now and I'm still on the Paxil. Everyone reacts to drugs differently though.Health Question & Answer

I don't think Wellbutrin has those same sexual side affects.Health Question & Answer

Wellbutrin is your only alternative. It doesn't mess with the libido like the others.Health Question & Answer

He should try both and see what you come up with!Health Question & Answer

Well you guys may want to talk with a sex therapist and or a couples therapist that may help with the depression as well as helping you guys work things out in the bedroom as well. Another suggestion I would place out there is looking into a book called The Multi-Orgasmic Man: Sexual Secrets Every Man Should Know by Mankat Chia. Its a great book on learning how to control one's orgasm, there is a section in there where he talks about impotence and/or early ejaculation, though I haven't read those sections all that closely since its not been an issue on my part but the book is well written and I've enjoyed it as my past partners.
