Legalities aside... Which is worse?!

Question: Legalities aside... Which is worse.?
Which has the worst effects on your health.? (Short term and Long Term). Marijuana or Alcohol. Unbiased opinions welcome!Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Hard question. Depends on a lot. For example, what else is in the marijuana.? Smoking marijuana only once, if it has been laced with cocaine, can and does kill people. Going on only one drinking binge can also kill you, or permanently damage your liver and other organs.

So, smoking unadulterated marijuana or drinking in reasonable amounts (keeping your blood alcohol in, say, the 80-200 mg/dL, 0.08-0.2%, range). For short term I would say that marijuana would probably be worse. The massive number of toxins/carcinogens that are inhaled would result in severe damage to the lungs, possibly leading to long term pulmonary injuries and conditions, such as asthma (which can limit a persons activities significantly, or even kill). also, marijuana stays in your system for weeks. If someone who smokes it has to do a drug screen for a month and a half afterward they will test positive (those "detox" scams don't work, trust me). So, say you smoke one joint, and then they random test you at work (for any reason, say a heavy box fell on your head and you had to go to the hospital)...then you are now out of a job. And, for the next 7-10 years, you will have to list this on your resume/job applications (or lie to explain the blank). Another example, you smoke a joint, a week later a kid chases his ball into the street in front of your car and you hit and kill him. The cops question you, it is a motor vehicular accident involving injuries/death so they can (in most U.S. states) demand blood and urine from you (and remove it by force...I have done this several times). You pee for them, you test positive, you were driving under the influence and may now spends a few years in prison as Bubba's pet. Ok, I know that you said "Legalities aside...." but I would think that contracting Hep B, Hep C, HIV, and cooties from forced butt love in prison resulting from marijuana use would be a significant health concern, as would lack of medical insurance because you cannot get/keep a job for the same reasons.

Long term, I would think that alcohol use/abuse would have a more significant impact on one's health. Long term use of marijuana can lead to severe lung injury (as noted above) and can perhaps even lead to genetic damage. Long term alcohol use, however, can result in many very bad things: liver damage/cancer, mouth cancer, throat cancer, stomach cancer, malnutrition, heart disease, and severe brain injury. The old drunks (in the instances where they live long enough to be old, most die in their 40-60s) are easy to spot/smell. Health Question & Answer

Good question.

The correct answer is: it all depends. If you aren't smoking marijuana, then it is definitely not as unhealthy, but most people smoke it. It also depends on whether you are going out to bars and having a few or getting completely blitzed. It also depends on what kind of diseases you are genetically prone to. If it's lung or heart, than pot is worse. If it's kidney or liver, than alcohol is worse.

For the sake of general argument, let's say you are trying to decide between going out on a Saturday and getting pretty drunk or sitting at home and smoking a bowl. I would say that the alcohol is worse for your health because you have to ingest a good sum of it to get drunk, whereas three or four tokes of marijuana is good for the rest of the night. also, hangovers, man. Something that effects your body a good 12 hours after the fact cannot be good for your health. Health Question & Answer

Wow....um, probably the mary jane, since users are usually smoking it non-filtered. Alcohol is no picnic either though. With prolonged use it can damage organs, weaken the immune system, and basically destroy the liver, which is the most delicate organ in the body. Health Question & Answer
