I think most likely it will just give you muscle tone, which is good.
I don't think it would automatically make you thin unless you significantly decreased your calorie intake at the same time and upped your cardiovascular exercise like running too.Health Question & Answer

Doing push ups and sit ups will burn calories so assuming you don't eat more than usual, you will lose fat over time. However, for a while you may not notice any difference as the fat is slowly replaced by muscle.

if you eat 2000 calories a day, and only burn burn 1500.
That's about 1/3 of a pound you gained because you didn't exercise.
So to loss weight:
Eat low calorie food-fruits,and veggies
escersize more.
But puch ups and sit ups do make you burn calories, not very many.
But if you do a million yuo will get stronger.
Instead do somthing other then those. there popular because there easy.
