Question: Has anyone here ever taken Adderall or medication for ADD.?
I've taken Adderall and I hated it so I stopped taking it but didn't tell my mom.. So now she and the doctor thinks that the Adderall doesn't have its effect on me anymore and prescribed me to a new medication called Focalin.. I just took Focalin for the first time today.. It had the same effects the Adderall did.. I don't eat, I can't sleep, I don't want to be around anybody, I don't want to talk to anybody, I'm all depressed and so much other things.. I thought maybe the Focalin would be different but it's just like the Adderall.. Both medications turn me into a totally different person.. I feel so angry and mad right now and I want to cry.. I have an attitude and snap at anybody who says something to me.. Just now I was washing the dishes and my brother came to annoy me and you don't know how much I wanted to beat the crap out of him or threaten to stab him.. Somehow I just ignored him though.. I'm NOT like this at all but when I take these medications they turn me this angry moody person.. This is exactly why I secretly stopped taking Adderall because these side effects never went away.. There were times when I wanted to just die because I felt living was pointless..
It seems now that Focalin is doing the same thing.. I can't wait for tomorrow when the side effects go away and I can be my normal cheery self.. Has anybody who's taken any ADD medication had these effects.?

Typically, people who have ADHD respond well to adderrall if they are truly ADHD.. Which, contrary to what people believe, isn't as common as most parents who think their kids have the diagnosis actually is..
I'm really sorry that your mom isn't listening to you.. I would suggest talking to your school counselor, and keeping a journal of your feelings with the times that you feel them, etc so you can show your mom and your doctor that you're serious..
My daughter is severely ADHD and I refused medication for her until she got a lot worse.. There are tests that need to be done, and you need to be monitored for awhile until a firm diagnosis can be made..
I'm not sure if your mom/school has done this for you or not.. But I would suggest keeping the journal to show that you're serious about the ways this medication is hurting you, and suggesting to your mother that you're willing to follow a chart of responsibilities and accept extra help at school and counseling before your re-start the medication again..
Tell your mother that you're willing to work with a tutor or somebody else who can hold you accountable for your school work.. For example, you need to have a firm list of all of your assignments from each of your teachers, that another adult needs to look at, the work should be completed at the same time every day and turned in to be checked by an adult at the same time every day.. And STICK TO IT! Tell your mom you WANT to do this..
also, everybody learns differently.. I too am ADHD like my daughter and I had a very hard time learning in school because I couldn't understand what was going on.. I don't believe in taking pills, I am the master of my own body.. And nobody ever suggested that I have medication for my problem.. As an adult, I learned that I need self-discipline.. If you show your mom that you're willing to discipline yourself and put school and family responsibility first above all other things in order to show her that you can do this, then I bet she'll be really impressed..
Strike a deal with her and tell her 'Give me one semester to prove I can do it without the meds, I'll follow a chart and basic rules to keep myself in line, if it still doesn't work, I'll try the meds'
Do these things BEFORE you argue with your mom or doctor again, and it'll show them that you really mean to do better with your behavior..Health Question & Answer

adderal was worse for me you should try to get them to lower the dose
or change meds u should try

if you have to try stratera it sucks for me its nonstimulant its an antidepressent makes you crazy
focalin seems ok for you mabe 2 high of a dose i had that problem and its ruining my life because of strattera

my daughter tried ritalin and adderall both had the same effects on her so I stopped giving them to her, she took strattera for a year it did not make her moody and did not effect her appetite however she did not grow any at all that whole year she was on it, did not grow taller and did not gain any weight, so I stopped giving her anything and told the teacher they would just have to deal with her because I am not risking her health for good gradesHealth Question & Answer
