I've never, ever heard that about St. John's Wort (Hypericum perforatum). Maybe a formula with that in it. That method is generally suggested, not to prevent toxicity, but to allow the body to continue it's normal healing process, like maybe with a liver cleanse or echinacea or goldenseal.Health Question & Answer
St. John's Wort has no particular toxicology of itself that's been identified. The main problem with it is its alteration of Cytochrome P450 3A4 in the liver, which causes interactions with about half the medicine in use in the world, sometimes dangerous ones. Oh. And it makes birth control not work correctly.
Cycling it won't alter the above effects, as they're a consequence of having the substance in your body.
Oh, and the stuff doesn't really work either.Health Question & Answer

you should actually be doing this with everything you consume...... even healthy foods can build up and cause toxins to form. this applies to nutrition, aromatherapy, herbs, everything. always rotate or take a few days break from something, just to be on the safe side.Health Question & Answer
