What happens when someone leaves their lice untreated?!

Question: What happens when someone leaves their lice untreated.?
I know lice have a life cycle, so they can't exactly die off, but what happens if you just leave it. As in for like a month or two, does it get worse and become harder to treat.? What if someone thought their head was just itchy, and then found out they had lice.? Is it just as treatable.?

Sorry about the stupid question, just wondering..Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Lice have a 7-10 day life cycle so when you treat your hair you must do it again 7-10 days later as the treatments only kill live lice not the eggs (nits). If left untreated your head will become infested as they lay 100s of eggs in this 7-10 day period that will then hatch and start to lay.It would become very uncomfortable and ich like nothing else you can also develop sores on the scalp from them biting around the hair line. You should treat them asap. And its not a stupid question if you don't ask you will never know.Health Question & Answer

First of all diagnosing lice can be tricky especially since the cold weather often leads to dry skin. This includes dry skin on the scalp which leads to dandruff. Be certain that you do in fact have lice before treatment. Lice shampoos are insecticides so the more often they are used the less effective they become.

If in fact you do have lice you would want to treat that immediately. Why would you want to wait.? They are highly contagious and do not just stay in your hair. Think of everything that touches your head: bedding, mattresses, pillows, clothing, hairbrushes, towels, carpets, couches and now you have just contaminated your entire family.

also think of the embarassment. Did you know that a full sized lice is approximately the same size as a sesame seed. That is pretty big considering the number that would be crawling around in your hair. Not to mention you'll be extremely itchy and perhaps scratch your head raw which will cause bleeding. Not exactly an attractive sight.

If it is lice that you have, why would you want to wait.? Remember, your scalp may be itchy due to dandruff too. Get your hair checked out and act immediately if you do have lice.Health Question & Answer

The lice stay, you stay itchy and flaky, AND everyone around you gets lice too. your friends, your family, everyone who sits in a chair after you can get lice from you. Everyone who sleeps in a bed, or lays on a couch you have been on can get lice from you.

Then you'll have to live with the embarassment of having given lice to everyone you know...

And by you, I mean you generically, not you personally. I'm sure you don't have lice and are just curious.

Unless you have crabs, because those are lice too, and that's even more gross.Health Question & Answer

"Another thing to be concerned about is hair loss. The lice themselves are essentially harmless, although excessive scratching may cause bleeding of the scalp, which may increase the risk of microbial infection. They suck your blood and leave droppings in your hair as well as eggs."

So, I suggest you go find a comb especially used for getting out lice as soon as possible. Standing the itchiness is fine for you, but for other people, they might not so comfortable being near you. The reason I'm suggesting a comb is because its more efficent, probably simpler to use, and maybe cheaper. I'm sure they have one at the local pharmacy.Health Question & Answer

Ok when you find out you have lice you should always treat it immediately!. If you leave it alone then yes it will only get worse as they breed quickly. Yes it will be difficult to get rid of because not only will you have to get rid of it from your head but from your furniture and bedding and anything else that your head has touched. My advice treat it now.Health Question & Answer

they dont just itchwhich is lice crawling round but they bite your scalp to suck blood that how they live they will get really big therefor getting more itchy and the more there are the more it will hurt because u will have so many bites on your head.
u need to treat it asap. if u dont have money for the solution put heaps of oil ie vegetable oil or olive oil ALL over your hair and scalp it blocks their breathing ducts. but it wont kill the eggsHealth Question & Answer

Lice love clean hair.. they don't live in dirty hair.... and it gets worse... they wont die off... as long as they have hair and a scalp to feed off of they will continue to reproduce... you need to get lice medicine, lice spray for your house.. and WASH EVERYTHING, boil all your brushes.....vacuum out your house...Health Question & Answer

oh my!!!! they lay eggs all of the time. the lice will turn into hundreds and hundreds of them, and get VERY large. they can sometimes eat into your scalp until it bleeds. and if you dont treat it, it will never go away. and eventually youll have to just shave your head itll get so bad. so deff. deff. deff. deff. get that treated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Health Question & Answer

You will end up with hundreds of the little buggers crawling and biting your scalp. Everyone will know what's up when you are constantly scratching. It's a no-win situation. Get the lice treatment and wash all of your bed linens and throw away your pillow. Do it all at the same time.Health Question & Answer

Just go to walmart and get some shampoo. It's gross, you spread it to everyone. You'll probably get it all over everything in your house and catch it several more times. They're always reproducing, so unless you kill them yourself they'll just stay there.Health Question & Answer

Well, they multiply and lay eggs on the scalp, and that's what causes all of the itching. So it would itch and itch, and then they would just keep multiplying, and that would NOT be good.

Or they could crawl into your brain and eat you alive from the inside out. ;)Health Question & Answer

Their hair gets itchy because the lice plant eggs up the the roots and if around a lot of people they could be blown away on to other heads. They also will dig into your head and cause scabs. Lice like clean hair not dirty!
