Does anyone have an idea what's causing this?!

Question: Does anyone have an idea what's causing this.?
Saturday night I couldnt sleep at all because my heart felt like it was fluttering. It felt like my heart would stop beating normally, do rapid and shallow beats, then two really strong, hard and almost painful beats to get it back to normal....it did this all night on Saturday night. Then on Sunday anytime I would rest I would feel the odd heart "fluttering" and had MAJOR heartburn on Sunday night and last night.

I went to our Quick Care here and the doctor really didnt even listen to me, he just did an EKG, which was normal, and sent me home with Beta Blocker medication and told me I need to see a cardiologist to have a 24 hour monitor placed on me to find the exact cause.

Has anyone heard of, or experienced this before.?Health Question & Answer

The heart does some strange things sometimes. We have all had those FLBs (funny little beats) where the heart has a premature or irregular beat. Most of the time these are harmless, but if they occur frequently, they can be a problem. The only way to be sure is to see a cardiologist and be monitored for an extended period of time. Personally, I think your biggest concern should be the beta blocked that you were given. Those medications should not be given lightly, as it sounds like the urgent care may have done. If I were you, I would consult my family physician, especially in regard to that medication.Health Question & Answer

It sounds like mitral valve prolapse. I have that and while its not anything to worry about, you should still get it checked out for some people have to be on medication. I also have acid reflux and I'm not sure if that's an aggravation to mitral valve prolapse or if its connected somehow. I do know that stress can get it to act up and also lack of sleep. Your best bet is to see the cardiologist to get the correct diagnosis.Health Question & Answer

Yes i have experienced something similar. It ended up being stress related at that time however I am glad I checked in with a cardiologist.Beta Blockers helped me through it.Health Question & Answer

It sounds like heart palpitations. if you have drank a lot of caffeine, or are stressed, this could be the cause. There are also other causes, such as drugs, anemia, alcohol and tobacco etc. Have a look at this website, it might help you find the root cause - http://familydoctor.org/online/famdocen/... If you really don't know what it is, i would go ahead and see the cardiologist, or even if you do think you know why, i would still go, just to be on the safe side. i'm sure it's nothing to worry about, as my friend has them sometimes, and it is just because of how she is feeling, as she has a stressful job. But definitely get checked out. i hope this was helpful. xHealth Question & Answer
