Getting rid of a cough that lingers?!

Question: Getting rid of a cough that lingers.?
Around the fifth of January, I caught a cold that settled in my lungs. Since then, I've been coughing quite a bit. I've had more dry coughing than wet, but still have both. At the end of the dry coughs, my lungs seem to whistle a little bit. This wouldn't bother me, except that these dry coughs bend me over double, and come in fits.

I've spoken to a doctor who told me to drink lots of tea, suck on cough drops, and take 600mg ibuprofen four times a day for inflammation, a benedryl twice a day for irritation, and cough syrup three times a day.

That was two weeks ago.

As the coughing is not only irritating during class, but is also really annoying to me personally, I was wondering if there was anyone on here who knew some other methods for soothing the throat and stopping a coughing fit in the middle.Health Question & Answer

Coughs can last for weeks and you are doing all the right things. If you are not already running a humidifier in the bedroom where you sleep, this too might help. The cough will go away eventually when your body has healed itself. Increasing your daily water intake which thins secretions will also help.Health Question & Answer
