Is it normal to develop new allergies as an adult?!

Question: Is it normal to develop new allergies as an adult.?
I never had a lot of allergies as a kid, just cats and hay fever. Now I am noticing that I get an itchy mouth after eating cantaloupe, bananas, and apples. I even got a cold sore or some kind of bump in my lip after I had an apple two days ago.

I should probably go and get an allergy test. Has this happened to anyone else.? Should I get a food intolerance test too.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
It sounds like you are developing oral allergy syndrome. It is linked to hayfever. Try cooking the apples or bananas and see if they bother you. If they don't bother you cooked, then it is definitely oral allergy syndrome.Health Question & Answer

You defiantly can develop allergies as you get older. However I do want to give you a little information regarding cold sores they are caused by HSV-1 which is a form of herpes its not a big deal as about 80% of Americans have this and it lays dormant in the system between flair ups. You can buy some over the counter medicine such as abreva which might help and it sometimes can be affected with acidic food. It is best though if you are concerned about allergies to go to your doctor and they can test you for what you are allergic to, from there you can get a series of shots and for most people it works to cure the allergies. Hope that helps!Health Question & Answer
