I have a random boil, it hurts, its gross and its embarrassing?!

Question: I have a random boil, it hurts, its gross and its embarrassing.?
My chin and chest have broken out all of the sudden and my skin is going through hell right now. However the main problem is that I have a random boil on the area on my lower butt, upper thigh and it hurts. What do I do about this.? I am not going to go to the doctor for it, because I don't really have the time. Is there anything I can do at home and how long will it last.?Health Question & Answer

I get these all the time in random area's and my doctor told me how to lance and clean it. Keeping it clean is the biggest part in making sure it heals up. Yes, lancing hurts but the boil hurts more and for longer. Once you drain it, the pain subsides. If you lance it and clean it well, you may not get another one... or you might be like me and be one of those people who gets them all the time. also, if you don't clean it out fully, it will grow up again in about a month.

When you lance it, it would be best to have a little lancing blade rather than a pin or a poking tool. If you are afraid of using the blade, then use a pin but make sure when you squeeze the liquid out that you are thorough. Clean it well with alcohol or hydrogen peroxide after lancing it and draining it. Then put a bandage on it for a day to give it time to heal. After a day, remove the bandage and it should heal on it's own. Bathe daily until it is healed to avoid infection.

If the area is particularly difficult to reach, you can have someone else that you trust lance it and clean it, or if you don't have someone like that, it is best to go to the doctor to get it lanced and drained. They might put you on antibiotics just to give extra protection in it's healing and to clear up any infection you may still have in there. (yes.. puss means your body is fighting off infection of some sort) I never take the antibiotics though because I would be on them all the time and I personally don't find them that helpful.

EDIT: Someone above mentioned a warm compress. I have been told this and used it a few times on smaller boils/cysts but it doesn't really fix the problem and it takes a lot longer to get them to go away. You can put a warm compress on it a day after you lance it if you want. (day after because a clot needs to cover the cut before you do this) The warm compress brings blood flow to the area which along with it is antibodies that will attack any infection that is left and help clean away other debris.Health Question & Answer

You can lance it with a sharp blade. Do so only as far as you need to in order for it to drain. Drain it thoroughly and keep antibactierial ointment and bandages on it. The resulting spot will likely take a few weeks to heal. If you notice that you get anymore or you start developing any other symptoms you should definately get to a doctor as this can be symptomatic of a staph infection which is not be played around with.Health Question & Answer

do not puncture the boil. it will leave a nasty scar and could lead to worse infection put a compress on it as warm as you can stand repeat as soon as the cloth cools continue for 20 min. keep it covered but i wouldn't put any ointment on it until it breaks and then only a thin layer.you want it to dry out there is also an ointment that is black and tarry. its sold as ichamathol.don't know if you can still get it without a prescriptionHealth Question & Answer
