So I have trichotillomania.
I am going to a psychaitrist tomorrow morning at
Vancouver Childrens Hospital.
What will I be doing at a psychaitrist.?
I feel uncomfortable when people talk about my bald spots.
How can I heal it.?

i have trich too
and the psychiatrist will not force you to show your bald spots if you don't want to
and you can cover up your bald spots by combing your hair to cover it, wearing a hat, a bandana, or wear a wig like i do.
unfortunately trich isn't curable at the moment but its something you shouldn't be uncomfortable about talking about especially with a psychiatrist
but anyways basically all the psychiatrist is going to do is ask you how you feel after you pluck a hair or what possibly triggers it

hello.. i too have trich.
i have been dealing with it since about 2 or 3 grade and i am now a senior.
my mom in particular never understood me with my problem, forcing me to many psychiatrists. i am not putting your idea down, but they didnt do anything for me other than make me dread going.
some made me keep a book documenting the hair that i would pull, and want me to tape the hair in it. this did nothing for me. i didnt keep up with it
i was put on meds that were supposed to control the urges.. this didnt do anything either i believe but i was very young..
they will come up with all sorts of crazy things to do...
to me it was awkward and a huge waste of time
i can encourage you to try.. hopefully you are older and can just learn to control it. i by no means have stopped, but noone knows anymore that i have it. i hope you can find ways to help yourself... i know how stressful it isHealth Question & Answer
