How do I prevent recurring bladder infections?!

Question: How do I prevent recurring bladder infections.?
What has worked for you.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
I used to have recurring bladder infections. Take cranberry tablets. You can buy them over the counter and they don't have the sugar and calories of cranberry juice. Play special attention to hygiene, wiping front to back and do not soak in fragrance in the bath tub. Drink at least 8-10 glasses of water a day. Be sure when you pee that you are emptying your bladder fully. Even women can stand to pee (yuck, i know) to empty fully by straddling the toilet. also, if it is recurrent after and only after all these things, an antibiotic of sulfur may be prescribed by your doctor for long periods of travel or after intercourse. cranberry juice if taken long enough can actually be worse for the bladder due to its high acid content. You can ask your doctor to give you prophylactic antibiotics, these you will take right after you have sex and will prevent UTI's. I have a few friends who have chronic bladder infections, they went on prophylactic measures and the infections have disappeared.Health Question & Answer

I used to get bladder infections all the time. The number one way I found to stop them is always pee within about 10 minutes or so after having sex. also, drinking cranberry juice regularly or taking a cranberry supplement pill helps too. Otherwise, check with your doctor. Mine told me if those things didn't help, then there might be something more serious wrong with me.
Oh yeah, and sleeping with cotton underwear helps too. It lets you breathe more down there.Health Question & Answer

You need to find out what is causing the infection to keep coming back. Make sure that you are not wearing anything that might be rubbing in that area. Make sure that during sexual intercourse that you are lubricated enough. Make sure that if you have a bowel movement that you are wiping from front to back and not back to front and make sure that you are very clean in the rectum area as bacteria can travel. These are the usual things that cause the infection in the first place. Once you have the infection the only way to get rid of it is antibiotics and make sure you take the entire prescription.Health Question & Answer

To make sure your kidneys are OK, your physician may order an intravenous pyelogram (IVP). This is a special X-ray technique for viewing kidneys. Your doctor may also order an ultrasound scan of the entire urinary tract.

When children who are not toilet trained have bladder infections, a thorough medical exam is needed to find the underlying cause. This additional testing may not be required for older children who have had only one bladder infection.

What Are the Treatments.?
Mild bladder infections can clear up quickly in response to simple home remedies, such as drinking plenty of fluid. But if you experience no relief within 24 hours, you should consult a physician for more aggressive treatment. Delay in clearing your body of the infection can lead to more serious problems.
