A question about STDs in the 1700 and 1800?!

Question: A question about STDs in the 1700 and 1800.?
I recently watched the movies Roots and Miss Evers' Boys.
Roots takes place from 1750-1921 and Miss Evers' Boys takes place during the time of the Tuskegee experiment which was from 1932-1972.

My question is did the Africans/African Americans who lived in the United States during the time of slavery have alot of STD's. The black women had sex with her husband and was forced to have sex with her slave master so wouldn't this cause an STD problem with the slave master, his wife, and the men and women slaves.?Health Question & Answer

Wow good question. I don't have an answer, but I wanted to be able to save this so I can look back and see what everyone else answers. I would personally think though that unless someone went outside the "ring" of people that they would be ok.Health Question & Answer

First off, I don't know the answer. But I would say that it would depend on where they were living. There were (and are) higher incidences of STDs, and other diseases, in cities than in the country. So let's say the master was having sex with female slaves and then they go back to their lovers, as the other poster said, unless, one person had something and passed it on, that ring of people could be "safe". But in the cities, I think it would be similar numbers to now...people did and have always had sex. And without condoms, the incidence would be higher. It could be difficult to tell who had what though because without the tests, you wouldn't necessarily know.

Do more internet research. It's an interesting topic.Health Question & Answer
