my friend who has small cell carcinoma has been told today that it is limited stage which is good but what treatment options should he consider and is it possible to beat this. I have been told time and time again he wont live past 5 years. also he has opted to do nothing cause he has been told no matter what he has only got 5 years at most.Health Question & Answer

If your friend has a biopsy proven "small cell carcinoma," he will not do well without chemotherapy and radiation therapy. If the diagnosis is correct, these are very fast growing cancers. That is why chemotherapy can work so well against this type of lung cancer. A person with small cell lung cancer who refuses treatment is not likely to survive ONE year "IF" the diagnosis is correct. I have had a few patients with small cell lung cancers do well beyond five years, so it can happen - but only with treatment.

I don't see how it is possible for his prognosis to be the same with and without treatment. That just doesn't sound right at all. I think your friend should get a second opinion. If he has up to 5 years even without treatment, then I am sure there are some better options available. I am almost positive something is messed up here and again I suggest a second opinion. However, don't take the advice of this guy that says to see a nutitionist. If the answer to beating cancer was that simple then wouldn't we already know it.? Although a healthy lifestyle including a healthy diet are important factors, they are by no means a substitute for the traditional treatments. I believe that if they have told your friend that he had five years to live, he has a very good chance of beating this cancer. I think the most of us know that cancer has to do with the immune system. Cancer cannot live in a healthy immune system, so please urge your friend to go see a good nutricionest Doctor and get a good diet.Tell him to eat everything organic, never eat sweets. When you eat sweets, your immune systems stops working for about a couple of hours giving cancer cells in our bodies a chance to break through our defense that we have in our body and start a cancer.He has to drink a lot of good water. Has to juice and exercise. One of the best exercise is to get himself a small trampoline and use it at least twice a day. He has to build his immune system to 100 percent, and I will be willing to almost bet that he will beat it. Chemo is not good,cause a person that has cancer is already showing that he or she has a weak immume system and the chemo will kill the cancer cells but they will also kill his good cells and eventually the cancer will start popping up all over.God Bless you and you friend and good luck. p.s. Small Cell Lung Cancer can be very aggressive but can respond very well to therapy with chemotherapy and radiation. He would probably have only a few months without therapy, versus a good chance of surviving at least 2-5 years with treatment. Of course, nobody can say for absolute certainty what will happen, but most people I know would go for what the odds favor.Health Question & Answer
