Is My Heart Rate Too Fast?!

Question: Is My Heart Rate Too Fast.?
I'm a 13 year old girl. Not overweight.

I had been running for about 20 minutes with a 5 minute break in between. Afterwards I sat down.
30 minutes later i checked my heart rate and it was 123bpm, but my friend has a heart problem of some sort and that means her heart beats too fast and hers was 93bpm. We had both ran and rested for the same amount of time, even she was shocked to see my heart rate was 123 and she isn't anymore athletic than I am.

Then last night I had been laid down watching tv for about an hour and a half and my heart rate was 85bpm. I knew if was quite fast and I was always aware that I do breathe quite quickly and I always have done I suppose.

I just wondered does this mean I have an irregular heart beat or something.? Or is there anything else it can be.?

Thanks.

Hi Emily. - You're absolutely, completely normal.

Your 'resting' pulse rate, for a 13-yrs old female is almost exactly average, and will both rise and fall over the course of a normal day over a range of about 55 beats per minute (bpm) when you're asleep, to well over 80 bpm at the peak of your Circadian Rhythm (look it up on Google).

But also your pulse rate will rise very much higher still with stress (exercise) to drive your blood pressure up and force more blood round your arterial loop. How far it rises and how quickly it rises is determined by the relative sizes of your heart and the muscles of the body, as well as your lung capacity. It's a myth (beloved of doctors, nurse, and the like!) that your pulse rate should come quickly down after exercise,.... they are wrong, and the time it takes to be restored to its original value depends on MANY things...

Certainly nothing you wrote indicates"an irregular heartbeat". That is something totally different. Forget it.Health Question & Answer

Hi! I have a very fast heartrate due to a health condition. 123 beats per minute for your age, and for excersise is absoulutly normal! When I excersise for 5 minutes, my heartrate goes to 220. And I am not overweight. It is very diffucult to know, especially when you are young to understand if you have a normal heartrate. If you still think your heartrate is high maybe tell one of your parents. Or your primary care physician. Health Question & Answer

its either your too skinny or your too fat..

i forgot but i think youll might know.
sorry!Health Question & Answer

Your friend might be monitored or controlled with medications and been told by her dr. The signs of a really fast heartbeat at rest. A fast heartbeat at rest after exercise for someone your age is normal. The younger the person the faster the beats. Babies at rest heart rate are 120 or higher. Someone older than 30 with past history of heart problems 120 and higher is life threatening. It depends on the size of the heart. The smaller the faster. If you become totally breatheless, clammy, have chest pains or dizzy that[ s a problem.
Ask a dr if you want to make sure.Health Question & Answer
