If you have cancer Please Read?!

Question: If you have cancer Please Read.?
If you have Cancer does it make a blood test not normal...I just talked to my Doctor and she said blood was normalHealth Question & Answer

Answers:
Some cancers have tumor markers that can be found in the blood, for colon cancer it would be a CEA. Tumor markers are not sensitive enough to diagnose cancer and your doctor would have had to request it on his order to the lab, which I doubt he did. What he was most likely looking for was to see if you are anemic as this indicates internal bleeding.

You cannot determine if you have cancer or not by the color of the blood. I have seen many colon cancer patients with both bright red blood and dark blood.

It appears your doctor does not think it is cancer. I have to assume he is correct as you are not giving any other information. Were you examined.? How old are you.? Is this your only symptom.? How long have you had rectal bleeding.? There are several things that can cause rectal bleeding colon cancer is only one of them. You should go back to your doctor and tell him you are still bleeding if you are not satisfied with the results get a second opinion.
Health Question & Answer

Before I was diagnosed with cancer, I had 3 blood tests, all of which came back normal. I also had blood in my stool.

It doesn't come up in a blood test unless they are looking for it, or it is a blood type cancer.

Have you have a physical exam.? That is what should also be done if you have blood in your stool, to see if it's piles or hemorrhoids.
Health Question & Answer

Usually, cancer will give you an elevated white blood cell count on a blood test.

If it was bright red blood, then it isn't cancer. "Occult" or hidden blood in the stool can be a sign of colon cancer, but you cannot see that, except perhaps as blackish streaks.

If the doc said your test was normal, you should trust her! If you don't feel you can trust her, get a different doctor!Health Question & Answer

When I was diagnosed my cancer had already spread to my neck and chest lymph nodes from my thyroid and every blood test they did was normal. Even my white cell counts. It is not a fool proof way to check for cancer. I hope they have taken a stool sample and are planning a colonoscopy since both of these steps are what they normally do if you have blood in your stool. If they haven't talked to you about these options, ask them.Health Question & Answer

It would depend on whether the cancer was "in situ"--in one place--or had spread, and whether it had reached any part where blood would be affected. If it's invaded bone marrow, the blood test will show abnormal cells, but if it's isolated in, say, the liver, it may not.Health Question & Answer

Blood in the stool is often a side effect of tearing (constipation) or hemorrhoids. Try to get more fruit, veg and fiber in your diet and drink more fluidsHealth Question & Answer
