Lingering cough after having a cold?!
Question: Lingering cough after having a cold.?
I had a somewhat severe cold about a month ago, but the cough won't go away. It's a mostly dry cough, not very productive. It gets worse as the day goes on. No chest pain at all, only what I would describe as windpipe irritation. Does anyone know if this is something that will go away on its own.?
It's really bad when I laugh, I go into a coughing fit. Very embarrassing at work!Health Question & Answer

Usually it should. Since you've had it for a month you might want to go to the doctor though. If the cough is really bad they sometimes give an inhaler or something to help with the symptoms. Just a side note though- most coughs like this are caused by the cold virus and can't be helped at all by antibiotics. Lots of people ask for them but unless the doc determines its a bacterial infection they won't do you any good and just mess up your immune system even more:(
Since it is more of an irritant cough rather than a stuff stuck in your lungs kinda cough, you could try a cough suppressant (dayquil etc) to help with the coughing fits.
also try- a humidifier in your bedroom at night, drink TONS of water, take extra vitamins, hot herbal tea with honey throughout the day, etc. Hope you feel better soon, I had the same thing last month and it was miserable.Health Question & Answer

I've had the same problem. It eventually developed into asthma. I've discovered Buteyko breathing. It has changed my life and I am 99%+ asthma free. I highly recommend it. It is totally natural and very effective.Health Question & Answer
