decreased R.R. -- hypercapneaHealth Question & Answer

The pulse rate is one of the three mechanisms available to the brain to regulate the flow of blood round the cardiovascular circuit, and it rises and falls quite naturally throughout the day and night.

The respiration rate is a fourth mechanism (along with DEPTH of respiration, which you didn't mention) and it rises and falls too, but in order to increase the amount of free dissolved oxygen available in the blood to supply the organs.

So the "consequences" are that all the bodily organs receive their correct amount of blood and oxygen, so as to equalize 'supply' and 'demand'Health Question & Answer
