try to relax as much as possible as it will be more comfotable when they insert the speculum ( the device that opens your vagina)
also if your embarressed wear a skirt so you can just lift it up instead of having to take every thing off however they usally give you a blanket to put over your self

If it is carried out sensitively by an experienced operator it should be no more than a minor discomfort. I am unable to reassure you however that all those who take smears are that careful.Health Question & Answer
