Bacteria in the genus Staphylococcus are pathogens of man and other mammals. It is characterized by its ability to clot blood plasma by action of the enzyme coagulase. There are about 32 other staphylococcus species which have been identified, half of which are associated with human infections, but all lack the enzyme coagulase, and thus they are classified as Coagulase negative staphylococcus
