"Dano" has already given you some good info about the tetanus vaccine.

Question #1: The purpose of the vaccination is to prevent you from getting the disease tetanus before (a) you are ever exposed to the bacteria or (b) if you've recently had a possible or probable exposure. Tetanus is also called lockjaw.

Question #2 (Not really a question): Tetanus is an acute, often fatal disease of the nervous system that is caused by nerve toxins produced by the bacterium Clostridium tetani or C. tetani for short. These bacteria are found everywhere on the planet in the soil and in animal and human intestines. Living C. tetani produce 2 types of toxin and when the bacteria cells die, they rupture and release the toxins inside. One of them, tetanus toxin is what causes the disease, tetanus. Puncture wounds are the most common form of bacterial entry into the body. Puncture wounds may be caused by nails, splinters, or insect bites. The bacteria can also be introduced through burns, any break in the skin, and injection-drug sites.

Question #3: Yes. It helps distribute the vaccine. You see, the vaccine is injected into muscle. It doesn't distribute right away and the lump it forms in the muscle tissue can be painful until it's absorbed. Gentle massage and/or exercise helps distribute the vaccine.

Question #4: Yes. That's the logical conclusion.Health Question & Answer

My tetanus shot was in my butt muscle so...yeah. It didn't hurt that much but it did make a little lump under my skin which went away after a few weeks.

Tetanus is from a bacterial toxin that you can get from rusted metal. If you get the shot it lasts for 10 years so might as well get it. Health Question & Answer

A tetanus shot is to protect us from any exposure to the bacteria, Clostridium tetani. You can get tetanus from exposure to rusty metal, and it can be life threatning. Your arm should only ache for a day or two after the shot. Health Question & Answer
