Does a tracheostomy hurt?!

Question: Does a tracheostomy hurt.?
I notice that before a physician performs a tracheotomy on someone who can't breathe, they don't put him/her under anesthesia or some other sedative... Doesn't it hurt then.?

After all, the doctors are cutting her trachea open to insert the tube..... Health Question & Answer

Answers:
For emergency trach, they usually do a local anesthetic to the site where the incision is going to be made. If they do feel any sort of pain, it is pretty much worth it because their life is being saved.

For scheduled trachs, the medical team is prepared for the pain and will use whatever is their norm.Health Question & Answer
