Answers:
Shingles are caused by the same virus that causes chicken pox. The virus lays dormant in the body, usually somewhere around the spinal cord, and years later, usually when the person is much older (mostly over 55 and more commonly around 60 to 65 and older) it can resurface as shingles. If you have never had chicken pox, you won't get shingles. If you have had chicken pox and are only 16 your chances of getting shingles are extremely low of getting them. The sores can last for several months, but the pain can last up to a year, they can be extremely painful......Health Question & Answer

It's more common with older people, but yes a teen can actually get it. Anyone who has already had chicken pox can get it.

Shingles are caused by the same virus that gives you chicken pox. Once you have had chicken pox, some of that virus is left in your body and can cause shingles later on in life.

It is not contagious, but if someone who never had chicken pox, nor the shot to prevent them, is around her there is a risk that they will get the chicken pox from her. But if you have already had chicken pox or the shot for them, then you cannot "catch" anything from her.

Poor girl, I have heard they are extremely painful.Health Question & Answer

It is typically something that is only experienced by the elderly, but anyone who's had chicken pox is capable of getting shingles I believe shingles is basically a flare up of the chicken pox virus, but because your body fights it off it changes (you never get rid of a virus ya know) and affects the body differently. Gives you a wicked rash with flaky skin and such, and is sometimes accompanied my facial neuralgia (an overstimulation of the large nerve in the face quite painful) it's not contagious so no worries about catching it. Hope your friend feels better soon.Health Question & Answer
