How Can I Tell If I'm Anemic?!

Question: How Can I Tell If I'm Anemic.?
I get dizzy a lot, my ears won't quit ringing, I get really bad migraines, I feel weak, and I take iron pills, but my iron levels are still really low. I also black out for like 5 or 6 seconds at a time. I can't see anything, and I feel like I'm about to fall over. Then it's gone and I feel fine. This happens several times a day. I'm just afraid that I'm an anemic.

Is there anything I can do to prevent these things from happening.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
This sounds more hypoglycemic than anemic.

You should first examine your diet, AND be sure to NEVER skip a meal.

After that, you need an RBC count (red blood cell count) to diagnose anemia. See the doctor.

THEN you need to determine the cause. There are many -- blood loss from menstruation, internal bleeding (too many aspirins.?.?), kidney failure, cancer . . . .

Only the doctor can tell for sure.

EDIT:
Are yo vegetarian.?.? Many vegetarians are anemic because they do not eat red meat, which contains both iron AND the proper enzymes and hormones to allow you body to use the iron.Health Question & Answer

They can easily test your blood with a drop from your finger. If you don't have insurance it shouldn't cost much. If you go to a place where they're taking blood donations they can do it for you for free ... they always check iron levels before letting people donate. And iron pills should fix anemia if that's what you have.

But you really should go to the doctor to rule out other things. That really doesn't sound like anemia to me. I've been anemic before ... and it's a constant worn-out feeling ... you wouldn't be feeling fine between episodes.Health Question & Answer

Are you craving ice to eat.? That's a sign of iron anemia. If you are buying over the counter iron that's not strong enough, you need a prescription for a higher dose of iron to bring your level back up to normal. Best to go and get a blood test at your doctor's office to rule out anything else. Health Question & Answer

Go and see a doctor, he/she would be able to tell you if you are anemic.

Oh and do you eat ice.?.? Because I know a lot of people that like to chew on ice or crunch it are anemic. I don't know why but that's just what iv'e heard.Health Question & Answer

Sounds like you should see a doctor. Multiple symptoms.

Being tired is one symptom of low iron, but of others things too.

Blacking out can be low blood sugar, or low blood pressure.Health Question & Answer

eat healthier but you should visit a doctor as soon as possible he/she will know what do you have.. probably they'll take some blood samples to check if you are anemic or if its another disease.

and you said you take iron pills right.? but you said that your iron levels were really low.?. i think its something related to that.... maybe you turn to be anemic.. don't worry the doctor will sure know what to do....
if you are anemic then that means you'll have to take iron injections (shots) but i can't really tell i've never ben anemic but one of my friends was and she had to take iron shots. =S
