Lingering Hand Numbness?!

Question: Lingering Hand Numbness.?
On my right hand, I have numbness. The phalange of the thumb, the entire index and second fingers, and the medial side of the third finger are numb, as well as the mounts on the palm at the base of the fingers. I think the mounts seem a bit puffy. There is no pain, no temperature difference, and dexterity is only very slightly affected. What could be causing this.? It has been this way for three hours; I woke up with it.Health Question & Answer

Hi Chantal,

If you woke up with it...my thoughts are that they way you were lying during the night has possibly compressed a nerve in your shoulder or neck and you have a referred problem in your hand.

If you can get some one to give you a neck and shoulder massage it might help but even if it doesn't, you may just not care so much. lol.

Seriously, just keep using your hand (but don't do anything really strenuous, and it should come fine). Some heat to the shoulder and neck area might help a little too.

If you still have problems in a day or two, then I would take a trip to the physio or chiro and just get them to check it out.
Health Question & Answer

Hmm, that sounds like it might be carpel tunnel. I wonder if you use the computer a lot during the day or for your job. My husband does and has c.t., he has to use a wrist brace when it flares up. Might want to see a doc. if it doesn't improve in a day or so. Wishing you all the best.Health Question & Answer
