Post-asthma attack: please help?!

Question: Post-asthma attack: please help.?
I had probably one of the most intense asthma attacks so far 4 days ago. Went to the hospital and was treated with 3 continuous nebulizer doses and 60 mg of prednisone. I'm currently tapering off methylprednisolone and taking my daily asthma meds (Symbicort, Singulair, Clarinex and Nasonex). Took off 2 days from work, went back yesterday - I teach. Felt like I was hit with a ton of bricks when I got home from work yesterday. Went in today but came home early b/c I felt achy, weak, sore and drained. I feel so out of it and when I hit the bed, it felt like a ton of bricks hit me again.

Has this happened to anyone after an attack.? Why does this happen and what can you do to help yourself.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Sounds like you have a flu or virus that could be triggering the asthma symptoms. I recommend seeing a Dr ASAP. Asthma and the flu are not to be messed with. Things can go downhill very quickly and it seems like you are already having a really rough time of it. Health Question & Answer

You should take prednisone for 7-10 days and You would visit your physician (pneumologist). Probably, You need respiratory function test.
There is a new drug for severa asthma: Omalizumab (Xolair). Please, ask to your doctor and continue your treatment (Symbicort, Singulair, Clarinex and Nasonex ) Sorry, I can^t offer you other alternative now. That disease is serious.

Did you have your asthma attack because you were suffering from a viral infection, i.e. a cold or flu.? If so, I'm not surprised you feel so poorly! My son is asthmatic and a doctor told me that the high dose inhaled steroids, as well as the prednisolone tablets, will initially make him feel really energetic and hyper but when the short-term effects wear off, he will feel really weak. It sounds like that's what has happened to you. Plus, the extra work that your chest muscles have had to do to enable you to breathe, and the fact that your heart rate rises quite considerably when you are having an attack, it's no wonder that your body feels quite weak and sore afterwards. I know it's hard having to take time off from work when you are ill, but you have suffered a serious attack and you need time to recover properly. No more work until Monday at the very least. Stay home and rest and recover. Good luck, hope you feel better soon. Health Question & Answer
