"Irritable Bowel Syndrome"?!

Question: "Irritable Bowel Syndrome".?
Does anyone have something like this..

My fiance has suffered from IBS (so we think) for 4+ years and it seems like no DR. can ever find anything. He has went for an upper and lower GI twice and still nothing.. They classify it as a serious case of IBS. He has been in and out of hospitals and doctors, he has been on 100's of rx's and nothing is helping..
He is currently taking Bentyl (but it has stopped working)
He stopped drinking dairy bc he felt that it may have played a huge rule in his "sickness" it seemed to help a little bit but.. He still gets these huge flare ups.. I mean where he is crunched over and running to the BR.. He says that his stomach is always sour feeling and it's constantly rumbling/rolling around.. He does not work out of the home bc it is that bad. When we *have* to go somewhere he gets instantly sick (sick= sourness in stomach and rolling..) What can help him.? He is always sleeping bc when he is awake he is sick. After almost every meal we eat he gets sick..

Do you think this is IBS.? Do you have something similar.?

Can anyone help.. We are so DESPERATE for answers..

What causes this.? What can help.? Are there any rx's that would be more effective than bentyl.?Health Question & Answer

I also was diagnosed with IBS, but mine was the opposite. It sounds to me that your fiance has IBS with diarreha, while I have IBS with constipation (yup full of s**t..lol). I get sick after I eat, sharp pains in my stomach like someone is stabbing me (havent been stabbed but I am assuming that is what it feels like), and cant do the # 2. There really isnt a cure for it. Thats why DR's really cant help, and after a while they may even prescribe him anti depressants. Ive been told that IBS is all in the head. Something in your brain is telling you that you are in pain and the anti depressant blocks thats. (Whatever!) They run tests to make sure that there isnt anything wrong with his insides and once that comes back negative they give him pills to mask the problem.

From lots of research, I have learned that IBS can be controlled by changing your eatings habits, lowering stress (if possible), and exercise.

I can honestly say that after years of pain and build up a little change in my life has helped a lot. I wish him luck. Health Question & Answer

Ask your doctor about Crohn's Disease. This is a site that may help.

It's similar to IBS, but worse. He could have this instead. I know someone very close to me that has Crohn's Disease and they take a few different of medications to help. (definitely talk to his doctor for sure, and I hope he gets better)Health Question & Answer

i have been through the same thing.

i am lactose intolerant. lactose free products are great. it does take time to get use to a new diet. i also can not eat anything greasy or dripping in cooking oil. butter has milk in it so i have to watch it.

my doc told me my digestive system was working too quickly on top of having the lactose issues. some people get IBS with the following things: Wheat, Soy, MSG. Lactose.....and Soy.

i was put on Benefiber the plain stuff that goes clear in water. Call the people who make Benefiber on how to wean the product into your diet. If you take it full dose right off the bat your IBS will be 10x's worse. Your body needs to adjust to it slowly. Once you are on the full recommended amount it will take about a month to get normal all together. Amazing stuff it has changed my life. I can travel and do things and not feel like I am tied to staying at home. However when I go off of Benefiber for too long I pay for it dearly. I was extremely ill with IBS all night I am back on it & things are getting better again.....

Hope that works.Health Question & Answer

If it's IBS then it's a severe case of it. You can get a marijuana recommendation for it. Tell him to smoke some ganja. If it doesn't help then he doesn't have IBS. If it does help then you're one step in the right direction no matter what it is. I sincerely suggest the use of marijuana. It's very effective and not something you'll build a tolerance to (mostly). It's all natural and if you live in Cali or Colorado or somewhere medical pot is accepted then you've got the perfect condition for it's use. I know people say lots of things about the ethical validity of my proposal but those people have never smoked in their lives! Why trust them over someone who does smoke and has done good research on the subject. Go to NORML.org for your states laws and articles showing the medical effects of the ganja.
