Does having low iron mean you are anemic?!

Question: Does having low iron mean you are anemic.?
3 years ago I found out I was anemic, I had iron deficiency anemia. So I started taking iron pills and eating things which contained iron. A month ago I took blood exams and the doctor told me I had low iron, does it mean I'm still anemic.? At first I thought my anemia had finally disappeared, but sometimes the symptoms keep showing, that's why I'm worried. Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes, you are still anemic. You can ask the doctor for a specific number and that will tell you if you are working your way up to being normal. I am also anemic.

GOOD LUCK!!Health Question & Answer

Yes, you are still anemic but you are not as bad as you were. Keep taking the iron pills and eating iron rich foods. I am anemic also but have an eating disorder and cant eat the foods I need. I'm waiting to have surgery to correct the eating disorder but the Dr hasn't called yet to tell me when it is scheduled for. I've had this going for 8 years and my bowels shut down when I got it and it has taken a long time to get approval for the surgery if the Dr would hurry up and set a date for it. Keep increasing your iron and if you cook in an iron skillet that will help even more, even if it is just heating up soup. I had anemia when I was in Jr high & high school and almost ended up with leukemia. The Dr said all my food had to be prepared in an iron skillet along with the pills I took and the iron shots I took I also had to drink grape wine 4 times a day. I got better until after I had kids, then I became anemic again and now again with this gastroparesis. So take care.Health Question & Answer

You are probably still anemic. These numbers would show up on your CBC (complete blood count) as a low hemoglobin and also a low hematocrit. For the iron , there are several, separate blood tests which give the doctor these levels. Fatigue is the most common symptom in someone who is anemic with low iron levels. You can go to WebMd and read everything on anemia and low iron levels.Health Question & Answer
