What are Heberden's nodes?!

Question: What are Heberden's nodes.?
Whatever they are, I am showing ''early Heberden's nodes and her fingers seemed a little stiff to flex''. I quote from the letter my consultant for arthritis sent to my G.P. I am 38, female and in the U.K. Cheers and Have Fun :0)Health Question & Answer

It is not the same as arthritis. The inflammation and pain comes and goes. Many times not returning for quite a while. It is usually inherited. Aspirin for the pain and swelling helps as does soaking in cold water or a cold compress. A prescription like Ibuprofen which is an aspirin product but much stronger than over the counter is very helpful. I am so very sorry that this is what the problem has turned out to be. Please take care, I will and have been thinking of you!Health Question & Answer

Great question, thanks for asking. I did look it up and now know what to call these nodes I have on my hands as well.

Perhaps you can ask your arthritis consultant to prescribe an antiinflammatory medication that will help with the pain, decrease the swelling allowing for better range of motion. Can take ibuprofen up to 800 mg being careful not to take with any other anti-inflammatory med (eg aspirin). Can take tylenol along with the ibu or anti-inflam.

Hot water soaks/application of heat also helps. If the nodes are newly forming, ice may feel better and will help to reduce some of the swelling and redness.

Good luck.......Health Question & Answer

Looks like it is genetic and arthritis.
