Can you contract genital herpes from a healed cold core?!

Question: Can you contract genital herpes from a healed cold core.?
I've gotten some differing information on this and hope someone has a good answer.
I had a cold sore that I treated with prescription Acyclovir and some Abreva. It scabbed over in about 5 days and healed. Two days after it healed, I performed oral sex on my boyfriend. We're now worried he could get genital herpes. I know it can be spread through cold sores, but what about healed cold sores.? also, he's had a cold sore before, and I have heard that this can lower his chances of getting herpes.
I've read some varying information on this and hope someone has a definite answer. Thanks!Health Question & Answer

Answers:
YES, oral hsv-1 can be spread to the genitals through oral sex.

YES, you can spread it when a cold sore has just healed. It is better to avoid oro-genital contact for at least a week after healing.

Actually, oral herpes can be spread 'in between' cold sores, no where near a time when you have one - when you are completely without symptoms. A lot of people are aware (from the valtrex ads) that genital herpes can occasionally be spread in between outbreaks, but are unaware of the fact that oral herpes can be too.

Hsv-1, the virus that causes oral herpes, actually causes 50-70% of genital herpes infections currently. The usual way of catching genital hsv-1 is though oral sex with a partner who has oral herpes. Happens all the time. When oral hsv-1 is spread to the genitals, it does not then get called genital hsv-2. It is a genital herpes hsv-1 infection, which is typically a bit milder than genital herpes hsv-2, because hsv-1 is better adapted to the mouth. It is still very easy to pass it to the genitals though.

I caught genital herpes through receiving oral sex from a partner that got occasional cold sores. He was always super careful to avoid contact when he had symptoms, but I caught it when he had no cold sore at all, wasn't getting one, hadn't just had one. He just had NO symptoms.

Just be aware this can happen, and that it is not uncommon. I have known three other women, including my sister, get genital hsv-1 through oral sex, and none of their partners had a current cold sore.

The most infectious period however is from the first tngle that warns you one is coming, to about a week after healing. Virus may be present on the skin during any of this time.

If your partner is going to catch it, they would probably show symptoms in 2-7 days. If they already have oral herpes like you, they are MUCH less likely to get hsv-1 genitally - in fact it hardly ever happens if there is already an established hsv-1 infection on the mouth.Health Question & Answer

herpes simplex 1 which is a cold sore is still a form of herpes virus. it is possible for someone to contract the sore on there genitals but it will still be considered herpes simplex 1. Unless your sore was herpes simples 2 genital herpes. Either way both simplexes can be spread to different parts of the bodyHealth Question & Answer

The herpes simplex that causes cold sores is completely different from the one that causes genital herpes. Unless you have genital herpes, then don't worry about it. Health Question & Answer

Cold sores are a kind of herpes, but completely different from genital herpes so unless there is another variable in here, you should be fine.Health Question & Answer

OMG! These people have NO idea what they're talking about!! that's probably why so many people get genital herpes! It IS the same virus.Labeled differently depending on location! Whether or not you can spread it depends on the stage it is in. during the blistering phase, when it is oozing fluid it is EXTREMELY virulent and contagious! you can actually give yourself genital herpes if you are so unlucky enough to i dunno scratch your lip and then scratch your genitals without proper hand wahing. or by using the same washcloth for the face then on the genitals. a good rule of thumb is to never kiss someone ANYWHERE if you have a bister until it has completely dried up and scabbing has gone away!
As far as him having a lower chance of getting it that is also false. Some people just have a lower response to what triggers a fever blister. Things like your immune system, stress levels, body temperature all come into play. Some people just get them more easily than others, but once you"ve had one you'll always have the virus that causes it. the virus lies dormant in the nerve tissue until it is triggered into a breakout.Health Question & Answer
