Answers:
it is true that all of the following run in families:

diabetes
vascular disease (leading to gangrene)
high blood pressure
heart disease
stroke

But it doesn't matter which side of the family.
Best advice for you is to see a doctor - you are NEVER too young to start PREVENTATIVE care. You need an exercise program, proper diet, monitoring of cholesterol,.... etc.

it is a fantastic idea for you to see a doctor NOW -- if all people would be so concerned at the age of 15, these problems could all be prevented by proper diet and weight loss. Once you are 40 and you've had your first heart attack, or you weight 300 pounds, it is far too late.

Good for you!!!
please ask your parents to set you up for a chat with your doctor to discuss your weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, exercise, and say that you want to do what you can NOW to prevent disease.Health Question & Answer

some diseases are genetic and come from both side of your family, but just because your mum has health problems doesnt mean you will too, all it means is that you have a predisposition to certain diseases/ illnesses, not that you'll get them, for example, Diabetes: eat healthy, excersize and watch your weight and chances are you wont get. If you know your're predisposed to something you can take action to stay away from risk factors and get early medical screening.
Don't worry about it too much!Health Question & Answer

Sorry, you can get it from either side. You need to learn all about it, eat healthy, exercise most days, and keep your weight normal, and that will all help a lot.Health Question & Answer
