Throat cancer and a music major?!

Question: Throat cancer and a music major.?
Ok-

I'm a freshman music major and something is destroying my vocal cords. I see the doctor on Friday for tests but I'm scared. I can't sing anymore because nothing comes out my voice hurts constantly and barely works. I look in the back of my throat with a flashlight and there are these lumps everywhere. I choke all of the time when I play and eat....

I've had to drop 2 ensembles and 2 vocal classes- anyone have any
experience or advice.? Any other possibilities I'm not seeing. This has been going on for months and this is the soonest I can see a specialist (Friday) after waiting all that time.

I was a voice major myself many years ago. I never had any problems, but there were other singers who had some kind of "nodules" in their throat. They had to rest for weeks before they could sing again. One woman had it so bad that she had to quit the opera, and have surgery to have them removed. However, after rest and recoup, she was able to sing again. Good luck.Health Question & Answer

since you are seeing a specialist(presumably an ENT) you will know more on friday, but i will try to let you rest a little easier until then. if you don't smoke, the chances of cancer at your age are small. the throat has lots of 'bumps' in the back and they are almost always just little inflamed patches of lymphoid tissue. you probably have laryngitis, and maybe even nodules on the vocal cords. Until you see the doctor, rest your voice as much as possible, don't even try to sing(could make it worse), and drink lots of cold clear fluids. Good luck!Health Question & Answer

i had similar symptoms a few years back, diagnosis was barrets syndrome, treatable with nexium. regrettably-i lost control of my falsetto because of the disease.

hope for the best!Health Question & Answer

This is gonna sound strange but on an episode of Hannah Montana she lost her throat and she "had" a tiny operation you will be fine don't be scared and keep your hope high!Health Question & Answer
