Answers:
I just had mine done, and you need to fast if you can to get the best reading.

The results take a minimum of 2 days, and you will probably get an executive profile from your doctor, reading other levels of chemicals in your body besides Cholesterol.

I was sent to this site for help reading my results :

You should actually be fasting for 12 hours, and can have either black coffee without sugar or water prior to having your bloodwork. It was take approximately 1 day to get the bloodwork back. Provided that you do not have any other underlying risk factors such as hypertension or diabetes your numbers should be:

Total Cholesterol: <200
Triglycerides: <150
HDL: > 40 (higher the number the better)
LDL: <130

They take blood. And it takes a few days to get the results.

You should be fasting. No food or drink after midnight, I assume.?

Your doctor will explain all the results when you go back.

btw. Being in "good shape" don't usually matter. I thought I was too. And at 40, I almost had a stroke, and now I got a stent in my heart. They tell me I am lucky to be alive.

Good luck. Listen to your doc.Health Question & Answer
