Why do you get a rash when taking amoxicillin when you have mono?!
Question: Why do you get a rash when taking amoxicillin when you have mono.?
Answers:
It has nothing to do with allergies.Infection with Epstein-Barr virus(the cause of infectious mononucleosis) and administration of beta-lactams(such as amoxicillin) leads to a pruritic rash in 80% of the cases. It's NOT allergic, the combination of the drug and the virus is toxic and leads to the rash.Health Question & Answer
When taking any antibiotic such as amoxicillin (which is actually classified as a 'cillin' antibiotic), there is always a chance of a allergic reaction. Allergic reactions can be a rash, itching, swelling, and/or a combination of these symptoms. The best thing to do is to stop taking the antibiotic, call the doctor who prescribed it, and hopefully he will change the antibiotic to a non-cillin. Good luck and be well.Health Question & Answer
Amoxicillin kills all bacteria, which makes your body a great breeding ground for candida. It may be a yeast infection on your skin, or an allergic reaction. Ask your MD. Health Question & Answer
