Chances of me getting it?!

Question: Chances of me getting it.?
I work with children and I worked with a group this morning and one mentioned she was sick Monday night (all night) and Tuesday night, also this morning (the parents keep feeding her and sending her back to school- makes me so mad!!). I have emetophobia and I'm terrified of catching it. I was with the group about an hour this morning and we played card games. We were quite close. I used alcohol gel straight after the lesson. I'm terrified I caught it. What are my chances of not catching it.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
You can reduce the chances and prevent yourself from getting the virus by simply washing your hands more (and using alcohol gel) which will reduce the spread of the virus pathogens. The virus has to be ingested, so steer clear of people who have the virus and avoiding eating food they have prepared etc. Always wash your hands before preparing and eating any meals.

With regards to your phobia-emetophobia (the fear of being sick) If it is interfering with your life, have a chat with your GP who may refer you to CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapist) CBT has a 70% success rate and is very useful for anxiety/phobia management

The virus is not airborne, these viruses are transmitted by faecally contaminated food or water and by person-to-person contact. The virus itself (apart from being symptomatically horrid) it's rarely harmful and is only really a problem for the elderly and babies (risk of dehydration). Actual diarrhoea and vomiting rarely persists more than 12-72 hours, other viral symptoms can last a bit longer.

Edit
I know Nurses who have emetaphobia, it does not mean you are in the wrong line of work at all. A phobia is a phobia. I presumed from your description you were taking about a stomach virus.? Don't worry about it. also, Multi vitamins will really not prevent you from catching virus's. We all get 7-10 a year regardless. Just ensure you eat a healthy, well balanced diet.

The best thing you can do to prevent yourself from getting the virus is as I said above, keep washing your hands.Health Question & Answer

If you eat healthy and your immune system is strong, then you'll be fine. Freaking out about it isn't going to help, the stress will lower your immune system and just allow you to get sick easier. So just chill, take your vitamins, and hope she gets better.

Edit: If you don't have a strong immune system, then I would suggest building it up by eating healthier- veggies, fruit, cut back on the sugar. Take vitamins daily, Vitamin C is a great immune booster. Vitamins A ( preferably as betacarotene), vitamin E and vitamin B1, B5, B6, and B12 are all immune boosting vitamins, as well.Health Question & Answer

Cathing what.?.?.? first of all you didn't mention what you were exposed to. If you have a good immune system and take good care of yourself of course you can fight off germs, virus's and bacterial infections.......well. If you take a daily multivitamin.....it may help, but pardon me for saying..why are you taking care of children if you have emetophobia to begin with, perhaps you are in the wrong field.Health Question & Answer
