Question: Can i have children if i have Hypothyroidism.?
I'm a 20 year old female. I never started my period till i got a check up one day and found i had hypothyroidism. They diagnosed me with medicine in order for my levels to adjust. In result i finally had my period due to taking them at the age of 18. Although i started my period. I still cannot have a regular one with out taking my pills. So what i was wondering was if i could ever have children with hypothyroidism.? If i can't have a period without taking my pills can i have a child.?Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Yes! The pills that you are taking are giving your body what it needs in order to function (that's why you are getting your period while on them). You are taking a synthetic version of thyroid hormone and thyroid hormone is something that your body needs to perform many of it's functions, like regulating body temp, metabolism, and the menstural cycle.

When it comes time for you to try to conceive, make sure you are strict about taking your Synthroid (or other thyroid replacement hormone). It will be easier for you to conceive when you are not hypothyroid (what you become when you aren't taking your Synthroid) and it's important to not become hypo during pregnancy.

Yes, you can have a normal, healthy pregnancy with hypothyroidism. It is actually a common condition. The key is taking your medicine exactly as your doctor prescribes. Missing even one dose can throw your thyroid hormones off. Regular blood tests and managing your levels will keep you and baby healthy.Health Question & Answer

I'm pretty sure my older sister had hypothyroid as she had her second child. Her second child right now is very healthy. :P

You honestly need to ask your doctor though to see what you'd need to do differently if you wanted a child.
You could always do the option of adopting though.Health Question & Answer
