HELP! Do I have a cold-sore? ?!

Question: HELP! Do I have a cold-sore.? .?
I have never had one before, and neither have either of my parents.
I'm not sure if it is one, its just a red mark on the side of my mouth that hurts, on the edge of my upper lip. It sometimes feels a little numb, so I wasnt sure.
If it is one...how do I treat it.? And what actually causes them.? How long do they last.?

Thankyou xHealth Question & Answer

Hey!
I get coldsores, and by the sounds of what you described it is a coldsore, you can get good creams from any local supermarket, or there is a herpetherm machine, as soon as you feel the affects of a coldsore coming on, you simply put the machine on your lip (I have one).

They usually last for around 4-7 days. That's the lead up and end of them too.

Some say they are caused when your lacking something in your body, like iron. Or you are stressed and just letting your self get run down.

Good luck!

From your description it is difficult to tell. You may just have a crack on the edge of your lip, or it could be a cold sore.

Once the cold sore has erupted, it will have to run its course. There is only one quick treatment for cold sores, and that is Valtrex, but unless you already have a prescription for it, it won't work well for this cold sore. There is no over-the-counter medication or home remedy that cures cold sores, but Valtrex, which is an anti-viral medication, will make them go away much faster, and as a result of taking this medication you will have far fewer outbreaks of cold sores. It was intended for genital herpes, but cold sores are caused by the same family of viruses, and Valtrex stops colds sores in their tracks. None of the other treatments come close to the effectiveness of Valtrex, not the ointment Zovirax, and certainly not Abreva or anything else. Ask your doctor about it to see if you would be a good candidate for this medication.

Many of us already have the cold sore virus dormant in our bodies, and never have a flare up of cold sores. We contracted it as children, as it is a very common virus, and children pick it up easily as they often share food and drinks, and may be less concerned about hand washing and hygiene. Cold sores can be transmitted even when the person does not have a cold sore, though it is less likely to happen then.

Health Question & Answer

Cold sore's are normall caused by coming into contact with someone else who has one. there highly contagious. You might have a cold sore from what your describing but its nothing to really worry about they normally clear up on there own but if it hurts bad just use a general antiseptic cream and keep the area clean and it should heal up fine =D Health Question & Answer
