Question: Is it possible to get the flu off my mums flu jab.?
My mum had a flu jab on saturday and has just got a mild case like the doctor said. ive been looking after her and now i feel a bit coughy and that is it just my cough or is it flu.? how could that work though how can i get flu off my mums jab.? dont they take the infectious bit out.?Health Question & Answer

Absolutely not...the flu vaccine does NOT cause even a mild case of the flu. Your doctor told you mom the wrong thing. The flu vaccine is made of killed virus, therefore it cannot cause the flu. However, some people get a mild reaction from the shot, slight fever, and muscle aches. This is not the flu. Any vaccine of any kind can cause the same reactions. There are a few people that have severe reactions, but it is still not the flu. Your mom was probably already infected with something when she got the shot and is now showing symptoms, and it is possible you picked it up from her. You cannot get the flu from a flu shot. It is often coincidental when someone comes down with something shortly after a flu shot because it takes a minimum of 2 weeks for your body to build up immunity after having a shot. Both of you have picked up a virus from somewhere else, not the flu shot. There are no live organisms in a flu shot.Health Question & Answer
