What will happen when my dad has surgery?!

Question: What will happen when my dad has surgery.?
So my dad got a confirmation today from his dermatologist that his biopsy showed that he had Basal Cell Skin Cancer. His doctor is or wants him to get an appointment with a surgeon to have it removed, and he will also need a skin graft. The affected area is in the middle of his back, below his neck. It is like an inch or two by an inch or two, and is pinkish in color. What will happen.? And he says hes going to ask his surgeon not to do a skin graft. What will happen and is that possible.? Will this be inpatient or outpatient surgery.?Health Question & Answer

It's really no big deal. Have had two removed from my face by what is called mohl surgery, I think.....

Any way, what they do is take a scoop out, and check the margins for cancer. They continue to do that until all margins have no cancer cells. Then they sew it up. In the office in which I had mine done, the record number of scoops was 13. I had to have 3. It healed fine. common. And the back is common as well.... usually sun damage.Health Question & Answer

The cancer is also known as Melanoma, a nasty skin cancer. If the surgeon has to remove a lot of skin, a skin graft will be warranted as 1 to 2 inches across is a big one and it is pinkish means there is a lot of blood supply so potential spreading is expected.

Good luck!Health Question & Answer
