Exposed to an STD... Help!!?!

Question: Exposed to an STD... Help!!.?
Ok, I'm freaking out. I just ended my second date with a guy. We spent a substantial amount of time making out. (he's a fantastic kisser, too, which makes it even worse) Before we were going to go any further, we had the "have you been tested" conversation. I also always ask 'do you get cold sores'. (a surprising amount of people don't know that this is herpes 1)
He answered "Sure! Doesn't everybody.?"
I turned 18 shades of pale when he said this. He said he doesn't feel one coming on, but he did have one within the last 3 weeks.
Now I'm sitting here crying wondering if this f**ker gave me herpes.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

(P.S. My first boyfriend used to get them, and we'd just avoid kissing when he had one. I never got it, but I did have chicken pox 4 years after that -- which I hear is Herpes Zoster. Don't know if I have built up any sort of resistance.?)Health Question & Answer

I don't think you have anything to worry about here. A lot of people get mouth sores and do not give them to other people. My husband has had them and I do not kiss him when he gets them. I do not get them. As far as I know, you do not have to worry unless you kiss on them while they are broke out. I think you do have a bit of an irrational fear about these things though. Cold sores are not worth getting that upset about. STD's are one thing (vaginal warts, etc) but this is just a cold sore. Just don't kiss him if he gets one.Health Question & Answer

75% of adults have oral herpes, many of them don't know it.

Have you considered that you might have it already.? If you have herpes type 1 you can get one outbreak and then not get another one for decades.

There's also a real advantage to getting type 1 oral herpes. It gives you almost complete immunity from type 1 genital herpes, and some protection from type 2. I'd much rather get it on my mouth than on my hoo-ha.Health Question & Answer

Cold sores are herpes yes but not the kind that stay with you. EVERYONE gets them, there not like genital herpes and you wont have contentious break outs.

Cold sores=herpes but are NOT a STD.

Cold sores are not the STD type of herpes, quit your worrying and crying.

You need to get up to date on whats a STD and what is not because a cold sore is definitely not.Health Question & Answer

Herpes 1 isn't as contagious as it's more pain in the butt brethren Herpes 2. The only way Herpes 1 can be transmitted if if you come in contact with an open cold sore. Herpes 1 also only shows up around the lips/nose, unless they touch it and then touch you, or give you oral sex, then it can show up on the genitals.
You shouldn't worry too much. Herpes 1 and Herpes Zolster aren't really a big deal. 75% of people today have or have had some form of Herpes 1...Health Question & Answer

Just so you know cold sores is herpes nut kissing someone and getting a coldsore is not vaginal herpes. I have had cold sores my whole life and do not have genital herpes. There is a huge difference between herpes A and B. Its not even called herpes 1. Look it up and educate youself before you make yourself look stupid!!!!Health Question & Answer

Cold sores are a form of herpes. I have never ever had a cold sore on my mouth, so dont say everyone gets them because they dont. Cold sores are contagious and should not be taken lightly. However, I was told that they cant be contracted unless the sore is present on the persons lip.Health Question & Answer

Yes, cold sores are a form of herpes, but they they're not an STD.

Its kinda like, colds and flus. they're similar, but not the same thing.

I don't think you have an STD. i hope this makes you feel better. but i would still go get tested if i were you.Health Question & Answer

that is not the same thing and a cold sore is different. You always do need to be safe though, you can never be too careful but I sure feel you fell off the handle here.Health Question & Answer

There are two different HSV variants; HSV1, which is the common cold sores people get around the mouth, and HSV2, which is the one most commonly acquired in the genital region. It is also possible, although rare, to get HSV1 on the genitals.

If you already have HSV1 (cold sores), it reduces your chance of getting HSV2 (Genital Herpes) because your immune system already recognises the virus but this is no guarantee and safe sex practices should always be employed.

FYI, the majority of people already have HSV1 and most people get it from their grandparents as children. also, a very large percentage of people who have HSV1 experience so few episodes that they think it has gone away but it actually just lies dormant until your immune system weakens from a cold, or stress, etc.

Both types of HSV are contagious and there does not have to be a sore present to transmit the disease as viral loads build up before an outbreak and remain after. That is not to say that someone is always contagious but it is better to be safe than sorry.Health Question & Answer

Getting Herpes Type 1 in an oral region can be a good thing:

First of all, it increases your immunity to other more dangerous types of herpes.

Secondly, it is unlikely that you will have more than a few outbreaks over your life. These outbreaks are usually not dangerous and are easily treated.

Herpes is most infectious just before an outbreak, meaning if this "guy" had an outbreak 3 weeks ago you are probably in the clear.

I haven't seen an indication of an interaction between chicken pox and Herpes Simplex.Health Question & Answer
