Too much of a xopenex inhaler?!

Question: Too much of a xopenex inhaler.?
Was having a bit of a breathing problem, I've been prescribed xopenex for my asthma instead of what I used to take albuteral ... I ended up having to take 5 puffs instead of just the usual two because of how severe my breathing was... Think I'm headed for an overdose.? Or will I be ok heh.Health Question & Answer

Answers:
Advair is not a rescue inhaler, but rather a twice a day dosed inhaler to be taken in the morning and night, it will not help in an emergency since the medicines are long acting and take a while to have affect.
All Xopenex is, is Albuterol with an added chemical chain that was suppose to eliminate some of Albuterols side-effects. Xopenex is suppose to be taken every 6 hours as opposed to Albuterols every 4 hours. Most of us respiratory specialists see little or no difference between the two drugs. However, you can actually send yourself into a very clinically critical situation, by taking too many puffs of any rescue inhaler. It is called status asthmaticus a condition in which instead of getting relief when you use your inhaler, your condition actually gets worse. This is an EMERGENCY situation and requires immediate transportation of you by a friend etc. to the nearest ER.Health Question & Answer

I would talk to your doctor. You shouldn't have to use an inhaler that many times. If you're not already on one a long term controlled medicine like advair or asthmanex helps reduce the amount of times you use an inhaler.Health Question & Answer

You should also be using Advair inhaler so you won't have to puff so many times. Or do you need to be using neb treatments.Health Question & Answer
