HPV is a virus that causes abnormal cell growth and may lead to those cells turning into cancer. LEEP, cone biopsy and other procedures that are done on HPV patients are NOT to get rid of the virus only the abnormal cells. in other words the procedure was done to prevent cancer not to treat the HPV.
A percentage women who are diagnosed with HPV can clear the infection on their own, but not all and there is no cure (yet). make sure to see your GYN every 6 months for PAP smears (or as you Dr recommends) to prevent the development of cancer.Health Question & Answer
