Answers:
Blocked blood vessel - Cholesterol or other "build-up" or blood clot.

My Mom had a massive stroke 14 years ago at age 62. It was completely unexpected. She'd just had a stress test 2 weeks before and they'd pronounced her in great health. She was doing all the right things (taking an aspirin every day, eating low cholesterol) and it happened anyway - apparently what we do when we're young will catch up to us.

If they got her to the hospital quickly enough there are now things they can give her that will help and she will have a better chance of getting more functionality back.

My mother's stroke didn't hit her ability to speak, she could still "find" words, except for the fact that half of her face was paralyzed and she had to relearn how to use her mouth and tongue to form those words coherently. That didn't take all that long. She did have speech therapy and physical therapy and occupational therapy. There's a lot of work ahead.

My positive thoughts are heading your way. Best wishes. Health Question & Answer

A stroke is a an injury to the brain when the blood vessels supplying the brain blood carrying oxygen becomes blocked. That then causes damage to the area of the brain and causes the body functions associated with that area of the brain affected not to be able to fuction. Stroke can be from high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity. It is the third leading cause of death in the US.

Do not get discouraged after only 4 days. The dizziness may be from the medications they have her on. My Mom had a stroke at the age of 65 and was also healthy with no warning and we went through all the same questions as you are. If she can barely talk the stroke has hit the brain area where speach is located.

From a family member stand point please do your best to be as comforting for your mom while you are with her. She is experiencing something physically that you are unable to fix. Help her but encourage her to do as much as she still can for herself. She is still young and still can have physical and occupational therapy in order to get what functions she has lost back. I TOTALLY understand the frustration that you are going through.Health Question & Answer

It is mainly due to cholestrol. When cholestrol blocks veins of brain then stroke happen. Reduce fat intake. After recovery I advise they should exercise regularly. Starting from very light exercise like brisk walking of 5 or less then 5 minutes.Health Question & Answer
