The two alloys people get contact dermatitis from are nickel and chromium. Both are in stainless steel. Some stainless steel like surgical steel is hypoallergenic. If you want to make sure he doesn't react, get a real 100% titanium watch. Not a steel watch with a bit of titanium in it.
He probably should get a patch test from a doctor to see if its nickel or chromium. also avoid white gold as it contains nickel. Note:chromium is sometimes used to tan leather.

I have the same problem with watches, and it is probably a nickel allergy for me. I have been advised to coat the back of the watch with clear nailpolish, to form a barrier between the metal and my skin. Sounds highly practical to me, so if your husband has an old watch at home, perhaps you could try this out and see if it works. Good luck.Health Question & Answer
Depends on what he reacted to, if it was leather it may be the tanning chemicals or if metal to the watch itself. You need to find out if the watch he reacted to is the same as the omega. Does he wear any other jewelry he does not react to, if so maybe a plating of that metal may be the best option.Health Question & Answer

Buy him a pocket watch instead....no skin contact then and they look so much better.
